I enjoyed the conveyer belt story level and the first level with gameplay after that. On the next level, the skybox is messed up when playing in EDuke32, even with classic renderer:

Until this point, I assumed this was made by someone in the Eduke32 community operating under a secret identity.

Had anyone even heard of this TC before you created this thread? Looks like a long-lost gem back from the '90s :) (well, I have yet to try it out so not sure if the word gem is even appropriate to use here but anyway)

P.S.: It also seems to be a nice potential addition to NightFright's Addon Compilation.

Well, whoever made this, I would be more likely to play again and finish it if someone would answer about the skybox. I'm wondering if the skybox works correctly in DOS Duke, or if it was an intentional breakage left to make it look like an authentic old episode :)

The question is indeed whether this is an authentic addon from 1997 or one that has been recently made for a retro style approach. A few files seem to be from 1997, but there are also editors out there that can adjust file dates.

Regardless what it actually is, it comes as a well-timed surprise. A small Christmas miracle perhaps? :)

I will definitely take a look at this, especially since Xmas-themed Duke3D addons NOT requiring Nuclear Winter are kinda rare.

I just finished the episode, and that was quite an enjoyable ride if I do say so myself. It wasn't really a map design miracle but it was quite fun to play through nonetheless. The new assets helped a lot at setting the right tone. Big thanks to whoever made this for providing me with some significant holiday vibe! You rock man, seriously :)

P.S.: I also found it hilarious that the author sometimes misspelled Santa to Satan :( Oh, and the occasional blords popping out of present boxes for no reason made me shit my pants a few times!

P.P.S.: Yeah, and one minor complaint: you should've set one of the custom midis for the 3rd level (Cool Caves). Death Toll wouldn't really fit in with that map's mood (and the overall episode's mood, for that matter). I personally set it to BEGINNIN.MID right at the start.

Sorry but support only ATOMIC EDITION. My best friend say that PLUTONIMIUM PACK might work.

Great TC, really kicks recently released Nuclear Winters ass. I especially liked the intro cutscene. I wonder if the idea of in-game cutscenes will ever catch on, seems like a very forward thinking concept. As for Santa-Satan misspelling, I really didn't mind it. After all, aren't they both basically the same? They both like color red, give people presents (only Satan's presents are "pain so close to pleasure" kind of thing, go watch Hellraiser if you want to learn more) and they both have their little helpers (elfs for Santa and demons for Satan). I would suggest adding a new weapon of some kind, for example, freezethrower can be replaced with a candy cone.

I also think you should host a site on dukeworld.com to promote your TC and future projects.

Dethtoll.mid supplied with this addon is not identical with the one from duke3d.grp. Different tune, should override existing one when loading the mod.

Hey, thanks man! :)

I guess the midi in my eduke32 folder (I keep the Megaton hq versions of the original midis there) accidentally overrode the dethtoll.mid provided in the TC's grp. I think I should replay 3rd level someday in order to listen to that track and experience the level as it was intended.

P.S.: Still strange why the author didn't change the filename.

Some things to report:

Maps:
- xmas1: It's possible to skip most of the level by jumping on top of some presents and over the wall next to the "Forbidden Videos and Books" store - could be fixed by making wall #127 blocking
- xmas2: In the supermarket, a wall is shown in the "Meat Mountain" area which shouldn't be there (wall 1755/1765); around the elf disco, 9 parts of the slope surrounding the area still have brick textures
- xmas5: A whole underwater area has brick instead of cave textures (walls 161-166 and floors of sectors 21+22)
- xmas7: Brick textures on walls 119, 130, 154, 160, 184, 307 + that weird flat skybox texture at the beginning (wall 65) which should probably be another rock texture

Misc:
- Tree sprites (3586, 3587, 3607), "Elf Disco" signs (3630+3631) and "Santa" sign (3626) have pink pixels
- The light bulb chain (3635-3638) is moving a bit, probably since 3637 is 1px higher than the rest (128x43 instead of 128x42)
- Skybox problem (probably due to image size of 256x128 - aspect ratio might be an issue)

Besides that, it's quite a decent addon. The last 3 maps felt kinda rushed/quickly slapped together, but in general I had the feeling this was one of the better Xmas addons Duke3D has ever received. Considering it doesn't recycle existing maps, I would still put it above Nuclear Winter in the ranking.

Moreover, if you're lucky to find a jetpack in one of the presents (I managed to get quite a few of 'em throughout the episode), you can easily do the skipping shit too. It probably concerns some other levels as well but I don't remember as of now.

It probably would have been better to exclude the jetpack from the present droptable and place it manually. But as soon as the player gets even only one of those, you have to calculate with the possibility to use it for the rest of the addon, so these skippable parts need to be blocked. Unless the author explicitly wishes to allow skipping large level sections.

I think the problem with the sky texture is that the image is only 128 pixels tall while it should be 400. A mere resizing to 800x400 won't do it though since a sky texture width beyond 256 would break software limits. Any idea how to solve this?

I have already tried this method and it does not work. Is there a way to make this extension work in Eduke32? With Dosbox it is not functional.

I use EDuke32 (7392) and Atomic version of Duke, works fine.

I used the Eduke32 version and the Atomic version to run Xmas97. It still does not work. I added the Atomic GRP file and renamed the "X97GAME.CON" file to "GAME.CON". Did I forget something?

1. Download EDuke32 (7392) and extract it to its own folder
2. Put Duke3d.GRP Atomic version into that folder (EDuke32 folder)
3. Extract XMAS97.ZIP to its own folder
4. Rename X97GAME.CON to GAME.CON
5. Put XMAS97 folder into EDuke32 folder
6. Start EDuke32 and choose XMAS97 folder as a custom folder
7. Start
8. If it still doesn't work take a bazooka and blow up your hardware with it (jk)
