Trailer Park Boys corner.

#1

Hey guys. I just got Netflix up and running on my Xbox One S and I'm very interested in the cult classic show: Trailer Park Boys. Some people are raving about this show. Since I'm new to the series. Which TPB episodes, seasons, movies and specials should I recommend watching? I'm about to enter Juan's, Ricky's, Bubbles', J-Roc's, Mr. Leahy's (RIP) and whoever else's world. Wish me luck!

What's your favorite TPB moment, episode, season, special or movie?

Frigg off DustFalcon

The general consensus is that the series died after Season 7; this was when Netflix picked it up many years later and Mike Clattenburg, one of the original writers, didn't return and it doesn't feel the same. Actors are either leaving (J-Roc, Trevor and Corey, Lucy, etc) or have passed away (Jim Lahey, Phil Collins) while some characters have changed (Bubbles has become insufferable at times)

Seasons 1-6 are peak Trailer Park Boys for me personally. Season 7 has some great moments with Phil Collins and should be watched just for him. Watch the movies too but stay away from the live shows.
Watch the seasons after 7 if you REALLY want to continue watching it. Same for the Out of the Park series.

Just watch everything chronologically. The series is better if you watch it grow organically. This is a show like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia where the characters just get more degenerate over time. Season 1 is a little slow, but it lays the groundwork for seasons two through five, which are so fucking hilarious I've watched them a million times. Yes the new stuff is different and the schtick has kind of gotten stale, but it's not terrible. One of my favourite shows.

TPB is a f*&king funny show. You should drink a lot of beer either before or after you watch it. Or while you watch it.
I find there is like a Chips / Nachos moment after I watch it. Oh yea, and smokes.
It's kind of like beer, too. Always fills you up, never lets you down.
I say watch the seasons chronologically. If you're like me at all, you're going to blow right through the seasons anyway.

Enjoy

Is it only the outdoor scenes that need subtitles or is the audio always recorded that bad?
I found that short clip to be every bit as lame as "The Office".

The sound isn't that bad. It seems someone was recording that video off a shitty PC microphone.

Its one of those shows that seeing clips of it doesn't do it justice. I thought it was unfunny and lame too until I actually watched it and my friends had the same feeling.
It's still going to be one of those love it or hate it shows, though.

I'm all for crazy, over the top, obnoxious characters and how they deal with everyday life but it just gave me a bad first impression. Maybe I'll find an episode on YT and watch the whole thing. Something that caught my attention right away was the goofy guy with the glasses that talks funny. The voice he uses seems too forced or something. It just didn't fit IMO. I'll post again if I end up watching more.

I thought they might put their best into a full length movie so I watched the first 30 minutes of "Don't legalize it".
I don't know if the movie is like the weekly show but I found it to be a bunch of guys that don't like each other put have to put up with each other for various reasons. In that 30 minutes I found zero humor. Maybe I was wrong assuming it was a sitcom. The title sounds like one.

edit: Actually I saw a few places where I think it was supposed to be humorous but it brought no laugh or smile from me.

I would not recommend that movie in particular. You really need to be up to speed on what's going on with the characters. It's not strictly a sitcom, it's actually a more complex series than it's given credit.

Maybe give Trailer Park Boys: The Movie (aka The Big Dirty) a shot then. It's kind of a pseudo-remake/quick recap of elements of the first 3 or 4 seasons. The movie was made, and produced by Ivan Reitman nonetheless, in order to introduce the TV show to American audiences.

The Big Dirty is much better as an isolated thing to watch.

It's really best to start watching the show from the beginning however. Jumping into the middle won't give you much context for what's going on, why certain things are funny as fuck (as they often build on previous events), etc.

It's one of those shows where there's a lot of character building over time.

I have watched a whole lot of shows or movies I had no previous knowledge of characters and backrounds and I found them humorous. So far it hasn't happened with this show. Shows like Married with Children didn't need watching of a bunch of shows to find subtle humor. It was there big time right from the start. Thats why my post comparing to the lame, very subtle, humor of The Office still stands. I still plan to watch one more Best of vid on YT.

I gave it one last shot by watching this.

Once again I found nothing even close to making me laugh or smile. There is too much drama, hatred and negativity from the characters. After watching close to an hour of various vids I felt I knew enough basics about many of the characters in the show. If there was humor its too subtle for me to see. Its more like a dysfunctional soap opera show than a sitcom type of show.

Your problem is that you're trying to compare it to other things.

Also, the show isn't meant to be a sitcom or a soap opera, but more like a mockumentary. From the first and second seasons, this becomes very apparent.

But anyhow, here's an offshoot centered around one of the characters, something I wanted to share for the heck of it:

John Dunsworth (Jim Lahey's actor) was probably one of the best actors when it comes to playing a drunk person while sober.

I enjoyed B&D, started with that but it took some time to get up to speed on S1 and only by S2 it really started to pick off more.
Only by S3 it kind of got the "golden age" formula that it's known for.

Overall, B&D is quite a good recap that can keep you going since the show itself does feature a very slow buildup that can be challenging to be interested in (with nice payoffs in the end.)
The show is more and more about the fleshed characters and subtle humor that only comes alive when you understand the chemistry more, before that it's hard to figure out as it might feel very "normal" or chaotic banter.
If you stick around, it will reward you with some very fun antics and the whole "trailer park life" has a very Flintstones feeling on everyday commodities.
After a few seasons in, you kinda learn to love it as a family and any setbacks can be quite crushing, that's something that I keep coming back to.
It doesn't work at all as a stand-alone thing, but it does require an investment before it can do it's magic.

But the show is not for everyone, if you don't find anything enjoyable on that movie then it's not for you. Plain and simple. :)

TRIGGERED. :) over an opposing opinion on a show.

Its OK to watch if there is nothing better on at the time. I just fail to find any humor. Subtle or the beer spitting type. Like mentioned before, its more of a documentary than a comedy show despite people building it up as hilarious in previous posts.

It's like 'The Orville'. "You have to watch it, as it's just like 'Next Gen!!!" Every clip and review makes me think that it's his usuall God-awful shitfest.

"But, it's trying to be Star Trek!!!!!!11!"

Ugh, no.

It has nothing to do with being triggered. Stop being a disingenuous faggot. You're being an actual retard. Clip compilations are the worst way to dip your toes into the water of ANY television show. What the fuck is wrong with you?

Still triggered. Look at the hatred and name calling. I believe you when you say you used to be a leftie. It still shows. :)
I'm not even going to waste time trying to hold a reasonable discussion. You're already over the edge.

Look, I can't speak without swearing and I've only got my Grade 10. I haven't had a cigarette since I've been arrested and I'm ready to snap, so I'd like to assert that under the People's Freedom of Choices and Voices Act that I am able to name-call and swear whenever I want. Cause if I can't namecall and swear, I'm fucked. I won't be able to properly express myself at the right level and that's bullshit. It's not fair, and if you ask me, I think it's fucking bannable.

My first order of business is to tell you to shut up and wipe that stupid grin off your face, cause it's distractulating my point. Next I'd like to announce that Forge and Radar have been drinking all fucking day, they're wasted out of their minds and they're both gaywads.

I've got nothing else to say except that Robman can go fuck himself. Truth fucking hurts, doesn't it, you son of a bitch. Defense rests, everybody else can fuck off.
