Been looking through various English imageboards and it seems like Ion Maiden threads are always full of shitty posts, with people talking non-stop about how much the game is pozzed or that it was made by SJW, most of the time people are referencing that very same 3DR blogpost about Bombshell design from 90s which they called "a bit embarrassing looking with 2018 glasses" with some other sentences about sexualization being a problem nowadays in general to prove this, all over again (I always forget about it). Another reason they bring that up of course is to prove that Shelly was censored or that she simply is a feminist icon and other shit alike that was already mentioned before. People don't even talk about the game itself or even the character itself, as in about VA work or design more in-depth when they discuss the topic.

The reason I brought this up is that it seems like it's impossible for good Ion Maiden threads to exist on imageboards. I don't think even actually pozzed games had it worse compared to IM, ironically.

Now, I kind of agree with xMobilemux and other people when it comes to VA work, design and most importantly when it comes to personality, in a sense that it could be improved a bit. It's not terrible and definitely is better compared to many western female characters, but still lacking. I don't know, just look at Bayonetta, for example, and compare her to Shelly. My main problem is that she's quite forgettable, mostly due to her personality or rather lack of it, even though she has a backstory that is mostly related to her work. When a character's traits are only being strong and confident, such character is quite empty. I hope she'll get more traits, especially feminine ones, at least typical ones that are often used to write women characters properly and make them look different from men. Usually writers tend to make them flirty, sexy, bitchy or cunty at the same time, because these are simple feminine traits.

Some people may say that this is a FPS game and all, but this is not an excuse. For example, the character on my avatar is from a fighting game (where according to people story doesn't matter as well), she is a very strong lying cunt and is an evil psychopath bitch (that also has anger issues) who is very feminine at the same time and loves to manipulate people or just play them in general, she of course hides her true self and pretends to be sweet, kind and innocent girl to fuck with people, on top of that she looks like a rock star and has shitton of various references to music. This came from the top of my head and I could probably talk about more if I played the games now and read some lore.

It doesn't surprise me when some people call Shelly a female Duke Nukem, it is related to this personality problem too. Shelly doesn't feel like she's a face of her game because of weak personality and lack of defining traits, in fact if you remove her from the game or just replace her with someone else, it won't make the game lacking. Now, for example, even if you remove some characters from various fighting games, it wouldn't be the same anymore. The worst case of course is when devs replace majority of old characters by crappy, uninspiring characters instead in sequels, something people absolutely hate, though people hate uninspiring characters in fighting games general, the problem is relevant to this day.
