Wait, Kylo has his mask back? Didn't he smash it in TLJ? I guess he had a spare one lying around somewhere.

They do. They just don't give a fuck because they know they can get away with it.

Also, what the hell is he doing with his light saber? It looks like he's going to kill himself or at least cut off his wrist holding it like that.

It's important to note that this is being touted as a leaked work-in-progress concept design. Everything is likely very placeholder and could be for just getting the general idea of where everything is. The Knights of Ren look like carboard cutouts.

It's not that impressive, though. Honestly I see little difference between this one and others. Just that the background is white and not black like TFA's. They don't even have originality in their poster designs.

His helmet looks like it was repaired; look at all the red lines on it.

With how great the Marvel Cinematic Universe was started and planned (and they were able to change things on the fly like adding Spider-Man), its weird to see how much they flubbed the new episode trilogy. It seems like the only thing that was planned before hand was to have each one focus on one of the original three heroes (Han Luke Leia) and everything else is made up as they go along. Last Jedi feels so disjointed it came off as more of a side plot instead of a main entry.

Is this gonna be a remake of Episode VII?

Abrams had a story draft or sketch for Episode XIII ... then Rian Johnson came along, threw that out of the window and made his own story.

I wondered if they'd go with blue after the red-logo TLJ.

I guess that photo was fake. The Rise of Skywalker instead of The WIll of the Force (WTF).

Also, now Revenge of the Sith and The Rise of Skywalker have almost identical acronyms.

The best thing about that teaser is the music by John Williams from 40 years ago. They know they have given us nothing new to care about so they are banking on nostalgia.

It's gonna be a letdown. Most people will eat it up, though. So much nostalgiabait.

Promising
Those that know me, know that I am, not even a remote fan to the of the original Star Wars.
This, the new guard, maybe not like the original, fan based pool, but it is promising. In my never, ever, ever, ever, ever humble opinion.

a movie where the protagonist Mary Sue's her way effortlessly to victory, and the original protagonist is a washed up nobody that dies alone in his mud hut from an abscessed tooth infection?

hard pass.

It would have been okay were it not an arc trilogy/saga, but losely connected stories. Wasn't Kennedy supposed to be in charge of this story/concept-wise?

Well, she signed off on everything, yeah. She hired Rian Johnson because he made her "feel comfortable." Her other contribution was seeing the Captain Phasma concept art and saying "that's gotta be in the movie!" So they shoehorned that in.

Look, she may be a competent businesswoman as far as logistics and organizing is concerned but she knows crap all about storytelling and even less about what makes Star Wars great.

To be fair, it doesn't take much to be "competent businessmen" these days since it just means that you know how to exploit idiots (just look at Patreon alone which is full "businessmen" like that) and I have a hard time to believe that they know anything about logistics or organization when most of those companies are full of literally useless people. This company would worth jackshit without Disney himself who made it in the first place by producing quality shit and managing company well. Had those who are in charge tried to cash-in on modern market without nepotism, connections and monopoly Disney or companies alike would never get out of the bottom, same for those talentless parasites which are making trash (which are arguably worse than fucking Commando despite having insane budget) because in truth this is what those people are, parasites and this is where their talent is.

This shit is fucked up.

imagine if this was a karate-kid styled movie instead of a sci-fi fantasy.

Mary Sue is a 5-stripe black-belt master that never practiced a day in her life, but is still meeting resistance while trying out for the high-school team
Luke worked his ass off to become the grand master, then he quit and died from an infected hangnail
general gender studies was the coach
other main characters are already on the team, or are supporting Mary Sue to get on the team
other side characters are teachers, councilors, parents, etc.

All the eye candy is gone and the cgi space battles are replaced with parking lot bullying. Keep the cringe acting and character inter-action. Embrace exactly how bad the last several movies have been.
The hero's tale from the original is long gone.
Even the badly done making of an evil guy isn't anywhere to be found.

It's all empty and superficial with a veneer of special effects in an exotic setting.
Dazed and Confused had a better story line and deeper plot than this drivel.

Both weren't a problem per se. In case of Rian they should have had a general story in mind and strictly(more or less) made him follow it in script.
In case of Plasma I see no problem. I suspect many designs in movies work like that. Isn't that the point of concept art?

Maybe. But either way, they didn't do a good job of implementing it. They just slapped her in there with nothing good to do.

Unfortunately, yes. They also hyped the character via posters, which was a mistake.

the only character that has any kind of background or depth is Kylo Solo. His parents are a known and that he briefly studied under Luke. That's about it.

all the characters are as disposable as the concept art super-trooper and Snoke.

Even Mary Sue can get scratched out of existence. There's no depth, and nothing relatable about her.

No it's worse. He died from the effort required to facetime to the parking lot in America all the way from China.

He was skyping to the parking-lot rumble from his toilet during a bout of severe constipation. He strained too hard and died from a brain aneurysm.
