So apparently I made this account 8 years ago and completely forgot about it.

I've been actively lurking here for...apparently over a year and a half by this point. I remember I was lurking for a particular reason but I forgot what it was and this just became habit. I tried to register an account today to offer feedback on a certain mod, only to find out my email was already in use. I tried to log in with some old credentials and I was in.

That was a weird experience. I'm pretty sure this is mine because these posts and this name does look familiar (but if you were to ask me what "96" was supposed to mean I have absolutely zero idea. Maybe referencing the year D3D came out?)

A few of you may have seen me in the eDuke IRC, asking about SDL. I've also submitted a couple bug reports to the flyspray.

I mention this only to say I've been here for a while.

Sure, let's do this:
Name: Nah
Age: Uh, let's just say I've been playing Duke 3D since I was like 6. That should give a rough idea.
Location: neh
Occupation/Grade in School/Year of College: nein

XBOX Live Gamertag: Don't have an xbox
PSN: MyNameisTNT

Favorite Author(s): I can't say I consider any to be truly outstanding. i forgot to edit this out because im dumb
Favorite Book(s): Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Favorite Musical Genre(s): i know virtually nothing about music; I mostly listen to video game music and nothing but. The very few exceptions would be some power or speed metal.
Favorite Musical Artist(s): Going with that last bit, DragonForce, Nightwish, Stratovarius aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand a few I can't think of right now.
Favorite Song(s): Wishmaster, Forever is Today, Last Journey Home

Big fan of Floor Jansen myself from her work in Ayreon and Star One. Haven't heard Nightwish yet however. Need to get on that...

Check Nightwish out. They have gone through 3 or 4 singers IIRC but Floor Jansen is the best IMO. They had one that sounded like a converted opera singer early on I didn't care for. Also, I can listen to them only 5 or 6 songs at a time because the songs sound so alike. But they sound great. Youtube is loaded with their stuff, especially live concerts.

Thank you. Wow, I didn't realize the original Mark had posted just above me. And a touch is only bad if it leaves a mark. Pun intended.

Hi everyone!

I've been a Duke Nukem 3d player since the beginning, but obviously as technology changed with newer operating systems, and newer computers, it eventually just started to sit in a draw not being played.

But now, just recently I got the urge to dig my three favorite games of all time out of the draw and get back into playing them. Duke Nukem 3D, Blood and Shadow Warrior!

I know about DoxBox, and played Duke through it a few years ago, but I bought myself an old Pentium 3 PC that is still running Windows 98 and installed them to bring back that glorious 90s gaming. I started digging around on the net to find out if any of the old Total Conversions / Addons and Patches are still floating around somewhere, and was surprised to find pretty much everything is still available.. the Starship Troopers TC, Platoon TC and some other various mods.

Now, i'm currently playing Duke without audio, got that usual Soundblaster issue going on.. but hopefully next week that will be sorted out, as the guy I bought the PC off, is sending me a 'PCI CMI8738' soundcard, which should fix atleast the Sound Effects side of the audio. I don't remember having difficulty with the audio side of things back in the day, but I guess our original computer had the right audio cards for these games.

Anyway, very happy to get back into the 3D Realms action, and hope to hang around these forums and see what other people are up to in regards to Duke Nukem 3D.

Welcome!

I know you bought a retro system, but have you tried EDuke32? It reproduces the original experience quite faithfully.

(setup.exe) audio settings?

Once upon a time I had an issue with the irq that the card itself was assigned. - I had to pull hardware and continually reset the soundblaster's irq channel to get it into a number that the game could recognize & use.

Duke evolved a lot.
Went a fairly advanced game with (sprites you can stand on) had floors overlapping sectors in build something old doom waded could not do
, to a very advanced build engine such as Eduke32 / editor of Mapster32 which you can go do ROR / TROR. 8bit mode and or Polymost mode, to even more advanced Polymer and more stable hom-free TROR etc type of game. But for polymer mode (depending on complexity of maps) you would need a crazy computer to fight off killer lag.

Duke's engine always had no limits in tricks.
you could exploit tricks.
in old days you could do the Window bug trick , commonly used in Bedrone.map , I used it like crazy in my levels and more.

I was going to give him a chance and maybe with the knight image maybe it's an order of chivalry, or a biker gang, or maybe a foreign squadron name.

Hey Builders! I'm excited to be here. My name's Matt and I played the very first Duke Nukem when it came out, and later the most popular Build Engine games, though I didn't finish them all (in fact, I only played very little of SW). I've been returning to them on and off over the years, and with the recent release of Blood FS, I've been hit with Build Fever. I'm currently playing through RR using RedneckGDX, and once Blood FS gets some more features and bug fixes, I'll play through that with my brother.

Back in 2010, I was a moderator on the forum for Frederik's Duke Nukem Reloaded until the project so sadly collapsed, and I've been keeping an eye on Interceptor's work since then. I'm really looking forward to Ion Maiden.

Anyway, over the past week or so, I've read through several dozen threads on this forum and I'm looking forward to jumping into the conversations now that my account has been approved.

Hello, my name is Pete. I love playing RPGs, Shooters and Space Simulators. I'm a published Science Fiction writer in the Spanish speaking world. My favorite Build Engine game is Blood. I got into Duke late at around the time the Megaton edition was released on steam (2013-ish), having only played Blood and Shadow Warrior before. Doom, Duke3D and other similar games like Heretic and Hexen were released when I was far too young. I was 3 when Doom came out and 6 when Duke3D released. However, having a crappy computer until around 2004, it forced me to play older games since I couldn't run newer ones, and that's when I got acquainted with Doom and many of the classic FPS games. Around 1998-2003, I was playing mostly Doom 1, 2, Blood, Shadow Warrior, Quake, Unreal and Deus Ex in the family computer, the last two to mixed results. I was far too young to be playing these games, but thankfully I had a cool uncle that helped me get and install them. He also got me into the Elite series with Frontier: First Encounters. Anyway, that's all about me. Excited to be here to talk Blood, Duke, SW and now Ion Fury!

Name: Peter
Age: 29
Location: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Occupation: Writer
Favorite Video Games: Many. Noteworthy for me would be Deus Ex, Elite Series, Blood, Quake, Fallout 1 & 2 and the list goes on...
Favorite Musical Genres: I listen almost exclusively to Old School Death Metal from the late 80's and early 90's. Thrash Metal too, sometimes.
Favorite Musical Artists: Again, many; just to name a few: Morbid Angel, Death and Pestilence.
Favorite TV Shows: Breaking Bad, X-Files, The Expanse, Star Trek Series.
Favorite Author: Arthur C. Clarke
Favorite Novel: The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein
Favorite Color: Red.
