Any Duke related dreams?

Last night I had an interesting Duke dream. It was about a space themed user map where I was on a ship and I was fighting assault troopers and enforcers but then I somehow managed to get outside of ship and I was using jetpack and looking at the spaceship from outside, as well as looking at the Earth. Then I saw some cannon that was firing at me with shrink rays and freeze rays, which is a bit similar to the level Overlord from original game where Overlord seems to shoot shrink rays at the Earth but in this dream it was also firing freeze rays and some energy bolts similar to the ones fired by Plasma Cannon in LameDuke. Well I was hit by shrink rays, so I shrunk and for some reason it shrunk me twice (it was also possible in original game to be hit by multiple shrink rays and after you returned to normal size, you shrink again) but in this case the shrink effected lasted longer. So I was still flying and trying to reach some kind of secret green room in an abandoned mini space ship which looked like those shuttles from Warp Factor but they were using green alien textures for some reason. After I reached the mini spaceship, the hands that show up when you are shrunk, started to look more like the ones from HRP and also a bit distorted, which looked really creepy and giving me impression that something was happening to Duke or maybe some side effect when he was returning to normal size.
After the shrink effect wore off, I reached an electrified room (it had generators and electrified floors). After I climbed on some platforms to deactivate the generators, I fell off, got electrocuted by the floor and died instantly but after a second, I got resurrected with full health (maybe the game automatically activated God Mode cheat?) and I was holding dual pistols at that time. I was confused because 1) I didn't remember activating God Mode cheat and 2) I thought I was playing unmodified Duke3D and not DukePlus or other mods that implement dual wielding pistols but I was thinking it probably comes with the user map, just like how many other user maps come with their own art files, con files, sounds, etc.
That's all I remember from the dream.

In first dream, I remember that there was a "downgraded" version of Doom 3 that was running directly on Quake 3 engine. In reality, Quake 3's engine is id tech 3, while Doom 3's engine is id tech 4. But in the dream, it felt more like a mod for Quake 3 than playing the real Doom 3. As such, I was running at fast speed through Doom 3 levels and there was more of the dream I can't remember.
In second dream, I remember that I was playing Quake 3 Team Arena against bots that are both from Arena and Team Arena but at one point the game changed and I was playing in a Quake 1 styled map with monsters from Quake 1 appearing and attacking me, while I was using Quake 3 weapons against them (the HUD at that time also changed to the one from Quake 1) and I had to make sure I don't get killed by either the monsters or the bots, either because I was trying a no death run or because it was following Quake 1 Single Player rules at that time. That was yet another one of those "crossover" dreams.
Last night I had a Duke3D style dream and I remember playing some map that had HUGE amounts of assault troopers and commanders and there was also an Overlord that spawned while fighting them. I remember this map was similar to the starting area of E1L1 (the roof part) but the monsters were all flying towards me and shooting each other while trying to shoot me, I was thinking maybe that way they can hurt the Overlord that stayed in middle surrounded by them, without me being involved (the fences were also set a "blocking flag" to block the monsters attacks but I could still throw some pipebombs if I aim above the fence). I think the map was a bit similar to one of the more recent MRCK maps, I'm thinking of Wide Awake that had a similar E1L1 roof setup at one point later in the map. After the level ended, it showed the stats screen but Duke didn't display in the right of screen as he usually shows up in the stats screen, instead it showed the level name "Lights Out" and in right lower corner, the difficulty misspelled as "Come Get Out" or something like that, both written in atomic edition font letters. That's all I remember from the dream.

That someday
There will be a proper Duke Nukem 3D remake!
Now to hide myself before I get shot like you all know whom.

Last night I had a dream about playing Duke3D on multiplayer (I don't remember if it was against bots or human players) but I know it was on a Christmas/snow themed map and it was running on a Freeze Tag like gametype with EDuke32 HUD enabled but the font was blue instead of red. I remember that all the weapons could freeze an opponent if their health reached 1, for instance I was using Shotgun and I was freezing players. I was also frozen once and I was basically stuck in this state because the server enabled option Last Man Standing, so you had to make sure to survive to win the match.

Last night I had a Shadow Warrior styled dream where I was in level 4 of the shareware episode, which is called Dark Woods of the Serpent and I was remembering it a lot more difficult than last time I played SW but maybe because in dream I was playing on No Pain No Gain difficulty instead of Who Wants Wang difficulty. The map was also significantly longer than before, the wood area being a lot larger than before and also being a bit foggy.

The second part of the dream was me with my friends and we were being chased by these bad guys. After loosing them, we ended up in this house which looked liked it was somewhat destroyed. There was even a big hole in the house, but we didn't jump into it. There were also some toys from Toy Story (Like Woody and Buzz Lightyear). I also was looking in the sky as well, and for odd reasons, I was seeing some Atoms in the sky (Maybe they were Atomic Health?). That's pretty much about it.
A few nights ago I had a strange dream that's not really Duke related (Unless you count Casinos being Duke related) Where I was at my Job, Working, and there was a Casino that opened up nearby, and oddly it was being run by Kermit the Frog. The rest of the Muppets were there too. Yeah I don't know why.

I had another Duke dream about couple days ago and this one I consider to be cooler than my first one which was that ventilation-water-vegetation-thing for Duke3D. This one was about DNF (oh yeah ) and basically.. I just dreamed of something for the original DNF 2001. This had actually never been seen of nor had I read about anything like this but it did fit the DNF style imo. I can try and describe the best I can and from what I still remember about that dream.
Location obviously was still LV because there were some canyons in the dream. The view was from top of a cliff and there was a big beach style opening in front of the drop and behind that was what looked to be the ocean. Area was completely empty of any kinda houses or trees (probably because of the desert thing..) but there was this one gigantic Octabrain at the edge of a cliff, firmly attached to it and that part I still quite don't understand. Basically at one point in FPS view I was inside the octa and it was somekinda techbase and when you went to it's jaw, you had like a total observer view control room of everything with a comfy controlchair in center of and slightly above the normal floor level. The jaw had some circle shaped glass and bars on it so that you could also see down and not just up.
For some reason the person who's view I was watching, went to pull this I guess self-destruct switch and from that point, I wasn't shown the escape part except for the beginning how the head part (room I was at) started to slowly get towards the edge of the cliff and eventually fall down. Duke was only like in typical Duke fashion something like "man, I gotta get the hell out of here" . Instead of seeing the escape part in more detail, the camera panned out to behind the Octa from an up perspective view. Basically the octa once that switch had done it's thing, started to fall off from the edge of that cliff and them tentacles going with it as the base did. Now I'm seeing the gigantic octa probably 1-2 kilometers away from me at bottom of the cliff somewhat near the ocean and it was slowly moving/sliding on ground (because of the momentum the drop had caused for it) and had left huge dragging marks from it's tentacles to the ground. This is also kinda where the dream ended because Duke was standing there at the cliff edge in a solid stance watching the octa sliding from the crash.

In the dream, I have seen the mod in action on YouTube and it had the following changes: the pistol sprites were replaced by the ones used in the mod Chimera but for some strange reason, only some of the frames were replaced, so the pistol was changing during reloading between the original sprites and the Chimera sprites. Another interesting stuff was that the mod was meant to have different sprites for Duke but in third person view mode it still showed Duke's sprites but a bit further away than normal and during that time the sprites were glitching into some kind of knight, maybe the main character from Witchaven. Also the mod had interesting features, such as being able to transform into the Death Wyvern from Hexen but with the ability to shrink to tiny size to make it easier to avoid enemy attacks and enter in small spaces.
Sadly, I don't remember much else from the dream.

After going back to sleep, I dreamed that I was with my friends who were all Pokemons in the dream (Like Lucario, Tyrunt, Charizard). Not only that but I was with Shiny Braixen in the dream as well. Not too much happened in the dream though. I think we were shopping, and facing some bad guys, but that about it.

#114 Posted 11 May 2017 - 07:59 AM
In the second part of the dream, I was in what it looked like a usermap that takes place in a space station. There were Lizard Troopers here along with some Enforcers, but there was also these Duke Clones that appeared as well. They did actually acted like Pig cops in the dream (although I don't think they actually replaced the Pig cop though). At some point, the space station was about to blow up, so I found a transport that took me out of there, away from the Space Station. While in the Transport, moving away from the space station, I looked back at it and saw it blew up into pieces. That is pretty much about it for the dream.

In this dream, I was messing around with the Shadow Warrior prototypes. Rummaging in a pile of trash on the other side of town, I found a bunch of old SCSI devices, some of them contained data which appeared to be from 3D Realms. I had this fairly large file (About 32MB) that nobody had been able to open, nor did anybody know what it actually was. After poking around for some time I decided to COPY /B it with something else, as it seemed there was no header and at the same time, something was off about these other files I was looking at. After a while I randomly realized that if I split the file up a certain way and merged those pieces with other files, I could get the 950908 prototype to to work.
When starting it I was surprised to see just text on the screen, much like the debug text in the older builds, only this time it was towards the center of the screen with a black background. It was not centered properly, which I found irritating, but reasoned it was temporary and likely meant something only to the developers, it read;
BAD IDEA!
NOT FINISHED!
DO NOT PLAY!
NEVER DISTRIBUTE!
MISSING PASSTHRU!
BAD WALLPTR, STRUCT...
You can probably skip this bit if you just want the good part, most of the dream consisted of me getting mad at the game not working and doing crappy things to my hard drives
Then the palette appeared to break temporarily as the display corrupted. I figured the title card was missing and the game had changed palette to display it, but as it wasn't there, it now corrupted the text. I caught flashes of a few more warnings about things that were wrong with the game, the sort of things you'd expect to hear about in Build, though not in the menu, things like sector cross-linking, sprites being found in sector -1 (If you don't know, this isn't valid and generally means the sprite is outside of the level) and messages relating to things like "drawskies" which exist solely in the dream I think.
The menu was hard to read, but it was there. It had that flickering quality that some DOS applications display when your computer is too fast. It still used that big plain text and used accelerators - you had to press the highlighted key, there was no cursor next to it to select your option. The flickering didn't surprise me, there weren't many x86 computers as fast as my K5 when that build was made, the Pentium Pro (Up to 200MHz) was over a month away and even then, it probably wasn't any faster than a normal Pentium in DOS, the new 133MHz P54CS being the fastest available at that time. The K5 was nearly a year away and the PR166 I was using a distant dream, 15 months into the future. I noticed that in the flickering text at the top left a message kept appearing, telling me that the dongle was missing. I looked in the options but it was broken, apparently not yet implemented. This crashed the game and I took a moment to contact Hendricks, telling him I had accidentally made the game work, trying to start it again to record it running but finding nothing but a message about a missing "NINJA.PKZ" this time. I sent the message anyway, telling him how to make it work and returned to the game files. A quick DIR showed that the files in the directory had been randomly renamed, but the way they cascaded with DIR /W spelled a word over and over - PIRATE. Well, that made sense, I did wonder if the game might try to protect itself in some other way and it had seemed odd that it no loner cared about the missing dongle. No problem, I can get the files back with InterLink, I thought. CD \ to the root of the drive and DELTREE C:\SW950908 - Bad command or file name. Huh, that's not good, I must have accidentally killed PATH when I tampered with Autoexec at some stage. INTERSVR, Bad command or file name. Decided to start Windows instead, Bad command or file name. Bastards. Where's my Windows 95 disc, the CD-ROM driver is loaded, so I can use the drive and re-install my now missing operating system, I'll deal with the rest of it later, I have a drive image, but can't be bothered with the wait right now. Divide overflow... Well, that's that.
The dream skipped forwards to me having run GHOST to restore my drive, apparently my partition now labeled "PIRATE" and I couldn't be bothered to change it. I went to copy the files back over and start joining them together again, hoping I could remember what I had done, only to be prompted with a replace file question. Odd, I didn't remember having that prototype on there when I took the image, it was taken when the first to released, but fair enough, it saves me time.
I start the game again and the warning text flickers up only to be replaced with an off-center message, "PIRATE" as the PC Speaker beeps annoyingly. Well, fine, I'll ignore that for, I can unplug the buzzer if it gets too annoying, but if that's the worst it will do until I exit the game then fine, at least I get to look at it. Fuck the menu, start the game! No episode selection, a level starts but the game shows a rough help screen, this time graphical. It's boring aside from the last page which is corrupted, but it mentions features under test, including an advanced AI, "darkspy", which remembers things even after you exit the game. Each feature has a box next to it and this one is marked with a red X, apparently meaning "to be removed" along with "drawskies" and a few other things. It also has a warning, in that raster font with black behind it, hiding some of the help screen, warning me that as I'm a pirate, some parts of the game will be disabled or altered in some way. Disabled huh? Well, I doubt the game is smart enough to stop me renaming maps. Then again, these resources don't seem to belong to the files in the game directory, in fact, they seem completely different. The more I think about it, the more I think that this huge file I merged with the EXE might actually contain the game data and almost everything in the directory was merely a decoy. I would be faced with this directory again as the game then exited, leaving DOS in a lower resolution as happens after a crash sometimes, missing NINJA.PKZ and a segmentation fault apparently, as well as another "YOU ARE A PIRATE, GO AWAY" at the end. Hendricks had written a message in response to my instructions, it was short. Do NOT distribute that prototype, do not mention these instructions to anyone! Seemingly it was sent from a cell phone.
Where it gets interesting
Now getting mad at the game for kicking me out again, I underclock my system, restore everything and enable write protect on my drive, installing a second drive solely to run the game, and run it from the same path it seemed to have been developed in D:\APOGEE1\SW or something like that. The game still knows I'm a pirate, but it also knows what I've done "ACCESS DENIED - CLEVER" appears at the bottom of the screen, apparently the game is pissed that it can't fuck over my hard drive. This time I start the game without paying attention to anything else and find that it has a loading screen, a fairly lengthy one. It notes a few things that are going on, one of which involves "Unpacking NINJA.LZH" and "Contacting darkspy" as well as that odd "drawskies" feature. The game now starts and I quickly exit the help screen only to catch a brief glimpse of a level in the game. It doesn't look like Japan, but it does look oddly familiar. The sectors flicker out and I briefly see a sky with animated clouds and from the angle I'm at, it seems that it would even have a day-night cycle, as a moon is stuck somewhere below the level. I only see this briefly as the view changes, as if I've been yanked to another part of the level, and the game stutters horribly as it tries to draw the map again.
This level resembles the first stage in most of the 96 prototypes, but it's different, it has these high towers and a tank that doesn't really work. It has procedural water that appears to be made of voxels, it even has physics that react to the player but make the game slow down and I daren't submerge in case the game locks up. Much like the prototypes from around 960627, it keeps playing that weird ghostly sound all the time. In fact, that almost fits because some of the textures seem to be from Realms of the Haunting, even the music sounds similar. The level isn't that eventful, but the sky is cool, it's night time in this part of the level and it starts raining and then thundering. I need a key, but it's at the top of a huge tower I can't reach. As I look at the door I think I can open it without the key by kicking it in the right place, a lot of the doors react to being kicked and it's possible the developers forgot to check if the door is actually unlocked, like Duke 3D. The door opens and that sound plays again, seemingly behind me, perhaps enemies have spawned. They have, it's a generic Ninja. This advanced AI is crap, it stumbles into walls and seems to try following whatever path I took, even if that takes longer, I try to kill the ninja but nothing much happens, he won't die and he won't fire, a message simply displays in that white text saying "Kill nothing!" at the top of the screen. I turn away from the ninja, thinking this may be a warning from the devs that the game will crash if I kill anything, only for the game to go weird. It switches me to F7 view mode, even though that did not appear to work before. I can see that Wang is a ninja in a black outfit in this version of the game, apparently a model of some kind, not a sprite and too flat to be a voxel. It seems to use sprites that don't sync with the animations properly for details. The camera tries to look up at the tower as the sound plays again and I see a dark figure in a cape standing there, I'm sure, but the level is barely drawing and it lasts only a few frames. The game reminds me at the upper left, "PIRATE" and gives me back control. Wang appears to stumble and walk clumsily, a little like being drunk in Redneck Rampage. I head through the door, deciding I've had enough of this level and not wanting it to crash, only to see a strange effect. It's like those portals in the final game, but it's not quite the same. It seems like they want me to think it's a continuation of the path I am on, it is clearly meant to be seamless, but it doesn't quite mesh right with where I am, the effect is a little broken and the sky is just a few seconds out of sync. Error messages keep flying up the edge of the screen about "drawskies" and "ninja.pkz" but nothing bad happens as I walk over the portal.
I know I'm in a different map, it's a smart trick, the game doesn't divide the levels up, it tries to act like one huge world. Everything slows down as the game struggles to load the level coherently and weird things happen to the geometry as it catches up. I don't get far before I get yanked to another part of the level again, a tunnel with water in it. I'm about to explore when I fall through that strange voxel water, it is brown this time, not blue, and find myself in these murky depths. The tunnel was clearly in a wall to the side of something as I'm in a pond with a building at the edge, the water is transparent but still brown. I can't swim right, but I don't appear to be drowning, so I leave it to roll a cigarette. The PC speaker is still beeping and it changes to a lower tone as a message flashes up in big red letters,
MOVE, NOW!
I ignore it, wondering what will happen if I do nothing. Only now do I realize where the textures and even some of the sounds are from, Blood, they're not from Shadow Warrior and, in fact, much of the sprites and even some of the inactive enemies are from Blood. I start wondering if this is perhaps a Blood prototype that borrowed assets from Shadow Warrior, but then, why am I playing as a Ninja? Why does the game explicitly reference such things? I always thought Blood took place in 1920's America, not medieval Japan. It sure does look like a level from the Blood alpha though, but significantly more advanced. Then again, the textures look messed up, as if the map wasn't built for them. It's more likely that the game is Shadow Warrior and this map simply shouldn't be here, maybe they used it to test converters or something? I couldn't figure out why, nor did I have much time to as the message flashes again, changing to "I WARNED YOU!" as the screen darkens. A quick burst of disk activity before a disturbance is seen at the bottom of the pond, something begins manifesting on top of the boring brick texture. The caped figure I thought I saw, only this time larger, closer. It is black aside from a red outline and glowing eyes, it makes that same sound, but at a lower pitch. "I SEE EVERYTHING" appears on the screen and the game locks up. "DARKSPY NOT FOUND" is left on the screen. I hear a burst of drive activity and the dream ends. I woke up here, in the dream finding this funny but upon waking up, noticing a shadow at the end of my sofa and wondering for a moment.
Odd dream, quite fun really. My memory of it is fading fast, but this is the best of my memory with a few of the blanks filled in.

I had one where I entered a map where I crashed a small spaceship (like the one at E2 start) into a canyon. A few hundred feet away was an entrance to a massive alien headquarters. In its gigantic main lobby were many forcefield-protected computers and control panels, and surrounding the room was an open tunnel of just water in it, but the forcefield allowed you to go in. Defending the lobby were larger turrets that fired more powerful green lasers. Looking around, I found a tile on the ground that didn't appear grouted, so I pulled it up and found a ladder to a secret security room with several camera monitors showing the lobby. There were also switches that did things like open the exit and flood some of the hallways with water. These functions were important because I didn't have the necessary jetpack to reach the exit off the bat. I opened the door to the main hallway but when I entered it, sirens blared and aliens flooded en masse, forcing me back out the door where it was then closed. With that I went back to the panel and activated a ventilation door to an alternate pathway. Once I went through the vent to a secondary hallway, I found that it was flooded, which was bad because there were few air pockets aside from the vent, but at some hallway intersections were platforms with ammo to a red missile launcher more powerful than the RPG. I got to the main hallway, which wasn't flooded, and after a lot of progression, I finally managed to get to the exit room. It was a large cavern with water in it and alien matter all over. At the bottom was a large portrait of the district congresswoman (it's a fuckin' dream, what can you expect?) and there was a moss-covered ledge with the exit on it. As it was, it was unreachable by normal (non-jetpack) means, so I had to head back to the lobby security room to activate one of the water lines. I head back and the water was gushing out of the hanging moss and flooding the room to the point where I could swim up to the ledge and exit it. At the end, I tried to save the automap to my IRL computer so I could recreate it. Instead I have a really crude sketch of what I could remember the next morning.
Speaking of really crude sketches, I had another dream where I found a nuclear plasma gun; it was a huge red gun with the shrinker's muzzle, and the core was a sphere with a miniature star glowing inside. It fired bright white projectiles that vaporizes lesser enemies in a single hit. This is the very crude drawing of it that I drew the next morning.

In the dream I remember that I was looking for some news online and there were news about what if 3D Realms managed to finish DNF back in 2009. I found a video where both Scott Miller and George Broussard were saying that if they managed to finish DNF back in 2009 (or early to mid 2010), then the game would have been a lot better than the finished product and the game would have been much better received. A lot of fans agreed with this and they proposed 3D Realms to finish the 2009-2010 build themselves and release for free on internet or as patch for existing DNF. That's all I remember from the dream.

The other dream I had involves with Duke himself killing the evil aliens (So Lizard troopers, Pigcops etc.). He then finds this little robot, which is known as the Ghost from Destiny. The ghost says "Hi I'm you're ghost, I will help guide you in defeating the darkness!" Duke then says "What the hell is this talking piece of crap!" After that Duke pretty much faces different enemies from destiny including Oryx, the Taken King, and he also faces these Taken Vex, which were oddly purple instead of black (...Dark Matter Cycloid?). That's pretty much about it.
Also little off topic but I'm actually going on Vacation today.

BTW enjoy the vacation!
