Game modes seems kinda pointless with how advanced and custimizable they are marketing Snapmap to be, they said you could make custom game modes, unless those only work in Snapmap maps.

Not going to lie but snapmap looks boring and console like and doesn't give me the sense that its a real level editor I have a feeling my 5 year old son could make a "map" on it. Not trying to hate it though it just seems kind of funny. I hope snapmap proves me wrong though, but either way I'm bound to make a map or two can't wait to see it.

This game looks amazing, but I'm the biggest fan of the humor it seems to have. Doom was never humorous to me, it's always been more like an Action-Horror styled game. Like take the combat from this game, and mix it with the environment from Doom 3 and that'd be the perfect Doom game.

Free for all is there too, but not advertised. The leaked alpha has FFA as a selectable game mode if you install a patch.

That's good to hear, I was concerned when I saw they didn't list any non-team modes in the six listed modes. A little confused about idea of installing a patch on a leaked alpha though, hopefully that does mean they will include it in the final game.

And I know you can make modes in snapmap, but they mentioned that has a 4 player limit, which isn't quite what I look for in DM. I'd love it if this had Last Man Standing mode, that was my fav in mods like Action Half-Life.

The main issue I see with SnapMap is that there is no way to create maps that aren't essentially hallways and small-ish rooms. If you wanted to do a really big open area, you aren't provided with any way of doing so because of the building block way that SnapMap is designed to work. With no way to add textures/meshes/sounds at some point the maps would seem to all run together for you. It does make me wonder if it could just randomly make maps only they'd be these prefab blocks as that's what you have to work with.

They've never said Snapmap is locked to 4 players; they just gave an example game mode called 'classic' that only had 4 players, which is what the original Doom had. (And Doom 3 at launch lol)
Also, they've shown player models with colors other than blue and white which are the two team colors, so some form of FFA is in there, whether its locked to Snapmap maps or not.

The Alpha had all of the game-modes locked except Team Deathmatch. Someone figured out the Doom 4 resource file format, and created a tool that allows you to patch the files. If you edit a map's header, you can control what game modes it's available in. Adding the appropriate entries into Heatwave's header enabled the game modes again.

Ah, right on, thanks for the info folks. I've already pre-ordered of course, just didn't want them to skimp on the DM.

https://www.reddit.c...bout_gamemodes/

This reddit post has all the gamemodes listed from the alpha game files

Quote

Deathmatch: Eliminate all players (here's your free-for-all folks)
Colossus: Control the demon to score kills
Escape: Build a teleporter and escape before the other team
Hell Escape: Escape hell, escape the demons.
Head Case: Control the skull to earn a score multiplier.
Escort: Get the objective back to your base by standing near it.
Capture the Flag: Capture the enemy flag to score points.
Head Hunters: Collect heads and score.
Hell Gate: Destroy the enemy hellgate.
Hunted: Survive against the demons (basically infected from halo etc)
Lost Souls: Be the last human alive.
Mission command: Complete the team objectives to score points.
Struggle: Humans try to capture the hill, demons try to deny both human teams. (This is humans vs humans vs demons)

They mentioned you can place detailing props, and also that somebody remade the doom logo out of barrels. I'd imagine people will make use of prop stacking to create clever architecture to dress up the standard rooms kind of like they do in halo's forge.

Still no outdoor areas though, I really hope they provide patches to expand snapmap to make it more and more robust and include things like Hell tilesets.

Not that it is a great comparison but the DNF demo had multiplayer game modes in the ini file that didn't make it into the final game.

It would be great if it launched with that many though.

I have Snes Doom Pal version, which is even more rare than NTSC version. This port was the reason I bought Snes, but only after I got the console, I realised how expensive Pal version is compared to that red cartridge. So, it took me a years to find it for reasonable price.

I also bought 3DO just to play 3DO Doom.

It's a shame that the funny eyes thing when you are invisible from Quake 1 will never return, but everything else's good.

Bethesda is set to reveal more of Doom’s multiplayer gameplay next week via live stream. To help unveil it, the publisher has teamed up with professional athletes and YouTubers for a “Day of Doom” live stream tournament.

Four six-person teams will compete for the title on March 29, captained by the following duos:

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown and Justine Ezarik (iJustine)
Retired Arsenal forward Thierry Henry and Alia Shelesh (SSSniperWolf)
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and Michael Jones (Achievement Hunter)
Retired Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson and Adam Kovic (Funhaus)

(Info taken from the Game Informer article about it)

I love DooM too... and II... for all systems. I don't have images of all things I have DooM, so I took this picture of the PC DooM area of my shelves in its current state.

Yes, I love shovelware levels for DooM and DooM II. :woot:

A couple of times a year, I get out the GameBoy Advance SP's, and we play Multi-Player DooM and DooM II (and Duke Nukem Advance) on them... even with their tiny screens, it is so fun. It isn't just nostalgia either... it is enjoyable for quite some time.

Though I don't have a lot to add, I am enjoying this thread. :whistling:

I'm really thinking that multiplayer may have different meshes for weapons than single player, because I suspect this is a weapon mod to the shotgun in single player. This may explain how the plasma rifle has 2 different looks.

So we know the Revenant is in multiplayer who can flood an area with rockets and has a jetpack, and we saw the Baron in recent videos who can probably take a crazy amount of damage, and now they mention the name of this new guy, the Prowler who is stealthy and moves really fast and defies gravity in these big leaps, so what do you think the 4th is?

There was a video briefly on YouTube that had someone showing off all the weapons that were in the alpha. I'm kind of surprised at how fast the BFG fires. I'm so used to every game having this period of charging beforehand. The chainsaw can be swung pretty fast too. Not complaining though. I did think it was odd for DOOM 3 to leave the BFG and chainsaw out of multiplayer when classic DOOM deathmatch was punctuated by the BFG and it's such an iconic weapon for the series. I wonder if all the multiplayer weapons will also make appearances in single player.

Doomwiki states that at least 3 weapons (Vortex Rifle, Static Cannon, Repeater) will be MP-only.

SNES Doom is rare? So I'm sitting on something worth quite a bit of money...?

I've got the red NTSC cart, but no longer the box and manual, sadly. :whistling:
