What is the purpose of the included switches.def? They simply redefine vanilla HRP assets over Caribbean tiles, and they do it inefficiently too: you could have just doubled up the off/on frame definitions in their respective spots after the correct skins.

Leftover from my last playthrough. I was annoyed by the lowres switches, decided to try and adapt the normal HRP ones. I gave up soon due to missing skills but left my HRP switch definitions while playing the rest of the maps.

Looks like people have almost forgotten this project, nobody's touched it for over a year it seems.

Anyway, adding Shark's Cove was a brilliant idea. Keep up the good work!

Also, does anybody remember on 'The Alien Remains' on the part where you go to the surface, you can just about hear the endgame movie music in the background?
Was that a bug, or was it supposed to do that, because I can't seem to hear it anymore.

Thanks for the praise. Like any HRP, updates to the highres content depend on community contributions. The only non-HRP work I can think of to be done is on the Duke Plus bridge. Since I originally added support, there have been compatibility-breaking changes on the DP side, and integration of the new enemies with DP features was never done in the first place.

That was a bug present in some of the levels because the ambient wind sound plays during the episode credits, so that is what Sunstorm chose to override, but they forgot to remove all instances of the wind sound from the maps. As part of the Vaca+ map patching, I added a new sound ID entry for the original wind sound and changed maps that use the credits-music-overwritten one to use the wind, as intended.

Why all this stuff with SVN and .bats and everything? Can't it be done via single zip file in the autoload folder like the HRP for the main game?

Autoload is not a sufficient mechanism for launching the add-ons because each one takes exclusive control of the game episodes and art tile ranges.

I have planned and designed an automatic loading mechanism of sufficient complexity for EDuke32 for some time but I have not implemented it because it would be enormous.

Waddup y'all?!

I'm having a problem with the last level, The Alien Remains!

When you enter the Cycloid Emperor's chamber and those walls come down, I think the beach ball is supposed to be bigger and spin round in the air like a disco ball but
for some reason, it just appears as a regular beach ball and drops to the ground

Also, the end level movie/slideshow doesn't play for some reason, it just hums in darkness for a second, then flicks to the credits scene that appears at the end of the game and
plays the theme music for a second, then cuts right to the score screen. I'm sure it's not supposed to do this!

Can someone help me please?

For the beach ball I suppose it's just bad map hacking but I suppose making a big 3D model based on an originaly small one is more complicated than the same with a sprite, animated or not.

I'm not an expert but I'm sure you can solve this problem by either modifying the 3D model's size through map editing, or you can't still create a new 3D model just for that based on the original beach ball one.


As for the cutscene, I know things related to that are very hard for the people here to make because of how it's done in the original codes and the corresponding files but since I never managed to instal Vacation Plus in a working state because of that SVN thing I can't try to help you :)

Unfortunately, I don't know the first thing about editing models or maps, so I'm pretty much stuck here.

As for the cutscenes, I've discovered that Hendricks has cut them out of the pack itself and put them in an 'extras' file because like you said, it's hard to put them in the game itself
(the same with the NWinter pack, but the opening cutscene still plays for some reason, not that I'm complaining)

It seems all I can do now is hope that somebody will eventually fix these problems, but I'm not holding my breath because everybody seems to be focused on the DukePlus stuff or
whatever nowadays, which is no good for me because DukePlus etcetera takes a huge toll of my computer, especially with the polymer/special effects stuff added, so I don't really
use it. :)

Also, not to rain on anybody's parade more, but the new eduke32 hacks don't seem to work with the VacaHRP, the weapons you're holding are suddenly invisible except the conchanator
for some reason, just so everybody knows.

But okay, that's enough of me being all pessimistic. Happy holidays and kick ass, y'all!

I find a way to play highres replacement for the Vacation ending cutscene in-game.
Place this file Vacation_Ending_HD into vaca_plus folder.
Use old build eduke32_win32_20131028-4125. Newest builds are skipping ending videos, this is a bug. I wrote about it to the developers but they do not fix this bug.

I tried putting in the eduke32_win32_20131028-4125, but now, whenever I run it, it says 'CON file 'VacaEDuke.con' missing' same with the 'NWEDuke.con' in Nuclear Winter even though the cons
are clearly in the VacaPlus folder where they should be.

I tried using your cutscene with the newest eduke32 (the one I've been using) and it starts for a second, but then just cuts to the credits scene.

Thank you so much for making that movie though. Keep it up, and keep reminding the developers, this bug MUST be fixed!

Yes, I know about IVF support. But it's not ideal for a slideshow of PNG files.

I know that there is no audio, but it is not difficult to add, just had not yet.

I see what you mean. Newer builds seem to work fine, except the newest one, which like I said, makes the weapons in HRP invisible.

Speaking of reminders, I don't know if it's something to do with the new eduke builds, but like I mentioned above, whenever I have HRP models activated, all your weapons are now invisible except the
conchanator and voodoo trip bomb (probably since they already have HRP models) but I think some of the older builds didn't do this. Oh, and the disco beach ball thing doesn't work either.

Sadly, since I know nothing about making my own models or editing textures and codes et cetera, all I can do is report problems to you chaps as I see them.

Anyway, thanks for fixing that damn cutscene problem. Keep it up, lads!

Some major mods or TCs might have a few small errors leftover that don't affect gameplay so those errors were not removed. I don't have that game so I don't know if thats the case or not this time. But if its only tile791 it might not be an issue to worry about. Maybe someone else with that mod can check their log for the same error.

VacaPlus hasn't yet caught up with the recent HRP 5.4 release (r587 / r683, actually). You won't see the HR version of texture 3761 unless vaca_hrp's textures.def gets updated to choose between old (moved) and new (polymerized) HRP texture 0791.

Those issues can be fixed easily by someone with repo write access.

I was playing through the HRP and I realized some of the palm trees are out of place near the hot tub, or are they supposed to be like that?

Also, I think the main menu looks a bit off colour or is that some kind of shading problem? Oh, this is when I don't have the HRP textures on.

I've probably mentioned this before, but the disco beach ball in The Alien Remains doesn't work, it just turns into a regular beach ball and drops down.

For anybody wondering how to install the "sharkcove2_plus" you have to unzip the contents into the vaca_plus folder, then what I did is create a shortcut to Caribbean.bat and add " -mx module.con" to the end of the parameter, so in target, it should say something like "C:\Duke3D\vaca_plus\vaca_plus\Caribbean.bat -mx module.con" or wherever Duke3D is located on your computer ;)
I just thought I should say this because I was reinstalling everything on my new computer and had a little trouble putting it on, and in case anybody else was confused.

BTW I mentioned this on the Eduke topic page, but 'vacation.grp' isn't featured on the list in the Eduke Startup anymore :D Is there a reason for this?
