Sector Effector Sprites "Auto-Open N Close No Touchplate"
#1 Posted 22 October 2013 - 01:37 PM
All I'm basically doing is having a simple swinging door close automatically after a certain number of seconds, 10-20 seconds would be perfect and. I could have sworn at one time I had it setup just like this and without using a touchplate either but I cannot recall how I did it. I tried using many different setups but it simply refuses to close on a delay.Oh it will open and close automatically but it closes immediatey.I was wondering can you actually have a Auto-Swing door setup without using a touchplate and what Sector Effector Sprites you would use to do this and what numbers exactly you'd imput on the Sprite or Sprites? Right now I just have one SECTOREFFECTOR SPRITE set at 1,11 Thanks!

Right SE 10 and wrong this isn't telling me anything.
Let me see if I can get through and yes I already
read thoroughly the greek salad at the address
you posted above.
Ok, let's say your using SE 11 in the doors hinge
it happens to look like this if you where viewing
itself,
1,11 SECTOREFFECTOR <<<<<<<<< Get It?
But?
If you changed the numbers on this same exact sprite to now look,
4,10 SECTOREFFECTOR <<<<<<<<< Like This!
8,10 SECTOREFFECTOR <<<<<<<<< Like This!
16,10 SECTOREFFECTOR <<<<<<<< Like This!
32,10 SECTOREFFECTOR <<<<<<<< Like This!
64,10 SECTOREFFECTOR <<<<<<<< Or Like This!
It will not work period!
Ok now let's say then you decided. to place two of these identical sprites within the same door sector so it looked like,
1,11 SECTOREFFECTOR <<<<<<<<< This!
4, 10 SECTOREFFECTOR <<<<<<<<<<<<< This Too!
Yes! with both sprites looking like this located within the same doors hindge the door will now Auto-Close but when the door opens it immediately closes without any type of Delay whatsoever and all I'm doing is simply requesting some sort of visual representation aka picture such as I bothered to show that would more easily explain how to set this up so it works properly, do you know what I mean?

quote from the page i refered you to earlier
Hi-Tag : Delay until door closes (a value of 30 = 1 second).
so that 4 you're using = less than one second
if you want the door to close after 10 seconds then your high tag will be 300 <<<<<<<<< Get It?
it will look like
1,11 SECTOREFFECTOR <<<<<<<<< This!
300, 10 SECTOREFFECTOR <<<<<<<<<<<<< This Too!
do you know what i mean?

300,10 SECTOREFFECTOR <<<<<<<<< 300!?
From what I previously read in "The Info Suite"
at "The Repository" you where supposed to do
this in increments of "4" for this to work properly.
From what I understood you're supposed to
type these numbers in increments,
4,8,16,32,64,128 for example or this will not work
properly.
I don't know where you read that but I'll try it.
Thanks Forge
bty; I really don't know if it makes any difference or not but
I'm not using eduke32 I'm. using the original Dos version
of Duke3D and the reason I'm bringing this up is because
I'm kinda thinking. this 300 figure WILL work with eduke32
but NOT with the original game????
hehe! just speculative
Ok in a moment I'm going to give this,
"300" as in "300 SECTOREFFECTOR figure you gave
and see if it works.
Thank Again

Yeah It Worked!
I don't know what the Max is but I even got it up to 1200!
Cool!
Now that's a long Delay!
bty; I'd like to apologize for posting here I haven't been on Forums
in quite some time, I believe it was probably just raw instinct that
initially caused me to choose this Tab once again.Anyone on here that's followed my posts over at least the last few years will tell you that I usually always post on this thread, just ask TeaMonster he'll tell you hehe!
Oh yeah and what I said in the last post about the 4,8,16,32,64 thing
I. recalled that from SE 11 and I thought it was SE 10 here's an excerpt,
" It is unclear exactly which values cause this to happen. However, it seems that values which are powers of 2 are always safe to use, such as: 8 (minimum), 16, 32, 64, 128, etc. The default speed of the effect is equivalent to using a GPSpeed with a value of 256"
Anyhow I'd just like to say,
Thanks Again!

Nukster is making a map, wow! That will definately beat Roach Roch series. Just hope to live long enough to actually see it after all Nukster has to learn a lot of things and as we all know he likes to learn the hard way. Good luck.
