I wish I could buy those games on GOG.com but it not like steam when you could enter a code that you got from gamestop Steam Wallet Code if gog.com had something like that I would buy instant I love classic games including Doom

A few caveats, the Fallout games are not the same ones that Interplay released on GoG. They have no bonus extras save the manuals. In fact the old ones (which I have on GoG) have been relabled as Fallout Classic, Fallout 2 Classic, etc. A nice bonus is that with any Bethesda purchase you get TES Arena and TES Daggerfall for free. Sucks that the original Fallout releases don't count for this. But they're available from Bethesda's site anyway.

Also, apparently the new GoG Fallout releases use a Widescreen patch that the Steam releases do? They're also multilingual.

I'm a bit confused why they should only be provided for free when something else is purchased, if these games were made unconditionally freeware quite a while ago. I understand that this is a promotional move but these two games should really be among the regular GOG.com freeware titles anyway.

Other than that, a nice development overall.

I think it's a possibility they might just release it without a purchase after a while on GoG. However, apparently the version of Arena included in these bundles is the CD version with speech, as opposed to the downloadable version from Bethesda's site which is the floppy version. So that's cool.

EDIT: Official statement from a developer:

Quote

The only difference between the Classic editions and the Fallouts from Bethesda is that the Classic versions (as we've decided to call them) have more bonus goodies and support one additional platform - OS X. Other than that, those two editions should be identical. The main reason for this difference is that the approval process for the remaining bonus goodies takes a lot of time and we didn't want to hold up the release just because of that. :D
To answer another question - will we ever have them included in the Bethesda versions? We will do everything in our power, of course, but I can't say for certain that we will.

It is very cool to see these on there. Of course, I own these already, and the prices could be better, but still good to see DRM free versions. (Though everybody knows how to use the steam versions with source ports none the less)

Even if you never owned the Dooms and Quake, $17.31 isn't that cheap. I think these were all lower priced in the steam summer sale if I recall correctly. I also would've thrown No Rest For The Living in there.

Considering Duke 3D was free on GOG one time, you'd think they could give a better sale for the ol' Dooms here. :D

Gahhh! Regarding Quake...

Unfortunately due to complicated legal issues we needed to remove the ogg music from the game. Instead we've added disk images into the build so that the DosBox version stays intact (as DosBox can mount CD images by itself). As for the Windows version, if you happen to have the game's CD you can just insert it and play the game with music.

I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience, but the world of legal agreements written 20 years ago can be ... a complicated one.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the game!

At least the DOS disc images should be intact so the music is still there, but you won't have music for the Windows versions out of the box anymore. Seriously, what the heck is the deal with 90s game music licensing?? This isn't the first time I've seen this come up.

Don't know about other games but with "The Witcher 3" I could use a code that I got in a local shop and I owned this game on GOG now. Still Muricans will never realize gog.com is a Polish company so all your dollars are ours! Posted Image

That's because CD Projekt also owns GoG and they gave the codes out themselves. That's how I got it on GoG when my copies were originally from Steam. The only other time this happened was when, as a backer, I got a GoG code along with a Humble and Steam version of Broken Age. This isn't common practice and won't ever happen anywhere else usually.

I really wish Quake 3 was included.
Quake Live doesn't cut it at all.

I'm sure we'll see more coming. Rarely do publishers release games all at once. Especially when they're in packs like this.

This is why I feel Quake needed a backup MIDI soundtrack like some other games that had CD OSTs, sucks that its so common to have quake with no running soundtrack unless you know where to look or own a CD.

GOG.com should've used Aubrey Hodges' N64 Soundtrack in the place of Trent Reznor's soundtrack in order to get around the complicated legal issues.

What's the story behind the digital re-releases of Quake not having the soundtrack?

Quake's OST isn't even good, and that comes from someone who puts Nine Inch Nails in his top 3 all time favourite bands. The first half of the title screen menu is really cool... then it's like Trent Reznor recorded himself push random keyboard keys while high. There is not much work on thought put into those musics, Ghost I-IV, in the same style, is a lot better.

Plus there are very few tracks total compared to the number of levels so it gets redundant fast.

Here's GOG.com's reason of not inclusding the soundtrack Daedolon. According to this post: http://www.gog.com/f...ing_music/post1

Anything less than CD quality is a crime.

The score is still included, however, for the DOS version because it uses a mounted CD image. They're just not allowed to include ripped OGGs. Something in the original musice license about redistribution, I imagine, which encoding in alternate formats comprises of. So you can rip the tracks yourself with the included CD images (which hass the full quality lossles audio) and make your own OGGs. But the tracks are pre-emphasized. Google that if you don't know what it means.

Not sure if I should buy any of this, even at a bigger sale. I mean I kind of want to, but then again I don't actually like the games enough to actually finish them. And I already own the steam versions.

The only advantages I can see is that the releases are using updated (can you call DOSBox 0.74 updated these days?) DOSBox builds compared to Steam, Final Doom includes the wads from the rare anthology version which has certain bugs fixed and Quake comes with the music for the game but you have to mount the cd for it.

So I suppose id only got the re-distribution rights for the music in the form of "Quake", and having them separately would mean something like selling Trent's music "as is".

On a related note, I have seen the Quake CD sold on eBay occasionally as "The Quake Soundtrack". I once messaged a seller and asked him why he called it that as I was certain an official soundtrack didn't exist... they said they sold more as "The Soundtrack" than as the game.

I suppose NIN probably sells more than a crappy retro game from the mid 90s.

No Terminator Future Shock? I am disappoint.

Yeah I kept checking back if they had added 2029, Rampage, FShock or SkyNET, but nope.

Bethesda doesn't have the rights to release (or rerelease) any Terminator games. Their words.

Not sure that's true, at least for other games I own on GOG the images are pure data, which means what you hear in the game is the ogg tracks, which aren't CD quality. Disappointing from GOG.

Of course when I complained about this on the forums the GOG fanboys got angry at me all at once. Not different from stirring up Steam fanboy hornet nest.

In this case it's true, it's been confirmed from people who've bought it. There are people there who care about lossless quality, which Quake, at least, is. BIN/CUE can still have CD audio included without OGG tracks or separate files at all.

Does DOSBox properly de-emphasize the tracks when playing them?

No, it doesn't. Somebody posted instructions on how to rip the tracks and create your own de-emphazied versions.
