To me it sounds like the regular MIDI with a custom sound font that just happens to have loads of chorus.
The high pitched sound (chime?) also sticks out and is something that wouldn't be left in there like that if it was an actual streamed audio.

Some older audio cards also allow you to manually crank the chorus to crazy values which adds a ton of echo, while it sounds cool in tracks like these, in most it will just sound chaotic and messy.
Still, some people do this since in order to "max" out everything.

EDIT: Damn, I guess it was streamed audio then I still strongly remember hearing something similar with really cranked settings on a certain font.
