Help make the Blood community a better place

EDIT: The situation is resolved and the thread is locked, but I still welcome anyone interested to join.

So you basically want us to step in and say you're a good guy? I agree with that but I'm not sure how much difference it would make, and I was thinking this before I came across this post:

Political discussions are often quite tetchy and emotional, and considering I have no idea what the situation over there is or what is explicitly best for the Postmortem I'll admit I'd feel somewhat uncomfortable just walking in there and taking sides, especially considering my above point.

In August 2012, Jace Hall made a visit to The Postmortem. In the resulting burst of activity, Daedolon made me a moderator both on the forums and the IRC channel so that someone from a United States time zone could keep a watchful eye during more hours of the day. I have remained a moderator since, with the title "BUILD Specialist", owing to my EDuke32 Development and years of modding, collecting, and research.
The attack is twofold:
1. Posty old-timers don't like the fact that someone they haven't seen around their own forums is a moderator, despite my qualifications, presence in IRC, knowledge of the game, and the fact that I'm no foreigner to the "scene".
2. I'm trying to combat some racist users (you know, actually moderating) but I'm seen as "disturbing the balance". Daedalus took offense to me modifying the official rules to explicitly prohibit discrimination by race, gender, and some other things, even though I talked to Daedolon about it.
In addition, people are questioning if I even care about Blood at all because I have not been active in the forums.

Edit: I've made a post over there. Waiting for it to be approved.

Why does Blood have the worst community ever? Every time I go on that place to lurk it's just outta control.

I had a snoop around that forum and I actually feel dirty after being there, creepy place, let them burn, maybe a better community for Blood will rise from the ashes.

Yep, I don't really know what good it would accomplish. At first I thought the problem would be lack of posters, not the civil war.

Makes me wonder how Duke4's forums look from the outside.

Yes.
The best part about is that in reality it's a DOOM and a Quake community with people who like Blood in passing.

It seems like a very delicate situation. Obviously by bringing in some other people to back him up he's helping to validate some of his claims such as positive community involvement. On the other hand showing the need to get validation from outside the blood community as opposed to inside could be seen as negative and further distance himself from everyone else. However I don't think it would hurt too much (although I could be wrong) for a few people to go over there and give some calm, objective notes, and not just "omg hendrix rools every1 else droolz" or something like that.
But what do I care? I'm never going to post there again

I can tell you that. Most people from the outside find people in here arrogant and a bunch of *put some offensive words here*, and they mostly mean Eduke32 Devs. Don't ask why, but people keep telling me to keep away from here. I am not attacking anyone, just saying what people says about you. Since you asked
Anyway, why did you become a Blood Mod in the first place Hendricks?

I say - If they no longer need your expertise, show them the finger and move on to bigger and better things. Why? One only gets one chance at life, one way ticked, no replay, no refund, no time to waste.

You're fair and impartial for the most part here and show a maturity beyond your years, but i wouldn't touch that mess with a ten foot pole
where is Jarmo in all this? You're talking circles with disgruntled forum members and there's no resolution in sight. Daedolon needs to step in and lay down the law.

Why is easy to answer. Again not a popular opinion from the inside, but outsiders (otherwise known as "noobs") nine times out of ten get hammered and walked on when they come here asking "stupid" questions and not using the "proper" protocol for their queries. Failing to read every sticky post is not an excuse for ignorance. Breaching no-no subjects like eduke32 multiplayer or polymer optimization is also likely to get a shut-the-fuck-up from the devs.
Insiders see this constant barrage of "nonsense" as annoying, outsiders are like "what the fuck did i do? Screw this, i'm outta here."
maybe slightly exaggerated to get the point across, but that's the gist of it

well, when you're the biggest dog on the block and you're providing a free port, you can afford to act anyway you want
i personally have no issue with it, and if "noobs" can withstand the initiation hazing and browbeating they'll discover that the community is just fine.

Just leave that place. If the gist of it is that you wanted to introduce rules that allowed a place to be more inclusive and less racist and you get that as a response, just leave. There's plenty of other places to talk about Blood (even here is a start)

I haven't seen the devs be rude lately, it's just a few posters who take it upon themselves to respond like that. It should definitely be stopped and discouraged, since insular communities are some of the worst ones around normally full of fucktons of drama and bullshit.
This place is far from perfect, but at least when I saw someone decided to be openly homophobic here nearly the entire forum jumped on him and he's only just now started to come back to good graces by releasing stuff, taking part and keeping that horrid opinion to himself.

Yeeaaaaah, not sure if that situation was the best example of this forum inspiring someone to come to good graces.
Was his opinion foolish? Yes. Did he deserve rebuke? Yes. But that thread was way too much, and just blind insults against him for almost 10 pages. And the fact that he almost stopped modding for Duke was terrible. I remember this post was made by Deadolon recently:

The slowed rate of projects isn't something to be worried about (and personally I think 'announcements' of projects are completely worthless and should only be done when the project is a few months away from completion) because shit happens and we all mod in our free time when we feel like it (and not all of us want to come home from work and start more work of a different nature)
#30 Posted 21 December 2013 - 04:17 PM
I just think there are negatives to both extremes. A forum can't be bigot-infested, but a forum can't be a bunch of sensitive sissies either.
