Weapons removed on level start

In E1L3 "Death Row", the player's weapons are removed when the level is started. This is also done in some mods, e.g. "Vermin Clearance" (where you actually lose them at the beginning of ANY level). I was wondering how this is done, via con code or somehow built into the map? If so, how could I add and/or remove this effect (meaning: weapons are carried over from the previous level)?

It's the hurtfloor texture. If the sector is small enough you won't get hurt but your weapons still get taken away.

As mikko said, it's the texture that gives you electric shocks ;) There's another tile with the exact same texture that doesn't do anything though. You might want to use that if the texture is too visible and want to keep the weapons.

Ah, I see. Then I guess in order to remove the effect, it would be enough to either minimally change player starting position (so he is not standing on the hurtfloor/slime texture any more) or to adjust the hurtfloor texture so that it's normal floor?

You should definitely ask the authors prior to making such changes. Many would consider them fundamental to the gameplay.

My idea was to test by myself first how it plays with the changes applied. If it works and gameplay balance is not destroyed, I'll contact the author ofc. Nothing would be published anywhere without that.

Starship Troopers TC did it well:

Have a lowered floor with the hurt texture, but place a sprite on top of it, so when duke spawns on it, he is pushed on the sprite and will no subsequently get hurt again.

It is also very easy to do with CON code, if you want to know how, just ask.
