DNF worth buying?

#31

Hmmm...since I'm a "hardcore" Duke fan I would consider any Duke game to be worth it. I got Duke Forever for a reasonable price and I enjoy it. I also bought Duke Critical Mass for $60, and even though I think that game is worth more like 5 cents, I still got it. So if it's a matter of how good or garbage a game is, then it depends on how cheap it is for its quality. But, I'm like "If it's a Duke game, I'll get it."

Now when I look back at it, I feel it was extremely close to being the worst game ever made.

Oh im sorry,i thought we were talking about RAGE for a moment there

And to keep on topic,i think its good.
Bizarre and often clashing design though but sometimes you have to enjoy a game for a games sake.
Console versions can suck my taint.

Oh, come on. If you seriously claim that DNF (or Rage for that matter) is anywhere close to being the worst game ever, then you're obviously delusional and completely out of your mind.

Let's not forget that DNF had incredibly forgettable music as well, that doesn't exactly help its case.

Personally,i was using hyperbole but RAGE is still a bad game.
Actually scratch that.
Personally id call it a worthless game which is arguably even worse.

I don't know how to be nice about this; you must be an idiot. I can see why you wouldn't dig Rage, but calling it "a worthless game", that's just stupid.

Its worthless in the sense that it offers nothing.
The level design is horrendous.
The shooting isnt that good and a good reason why is because of the level design,
The story is actually more nonexistent than DNF and atleast DNF has a reason to be as it is.
Mission structure is very bad and the sidequests are very few and ultimately pointless.
The rpg elements are not well done considering it simply amounts to collecting junk

Wost of all it fails as a tech demo.
Id tech 5 was downscaled immensely.
Its got great animations but take 5 steps forward and you will be greeted to a screen of blur
There is some great detail in the enviroments its just a shame i cant see it.

I guess the minigames are good and the car combat is pretty fun
So i guess i was wrong again
And as i said there is some terrific detail in animations and enviroments but its ultimately pointless because no one can notice it.

Rage is very good, the story is nonexistent but that's id; they never were good storytellers.

Just to add to this thread, because this game is heading towards where it pretty much should be, forgotten.

I really enjoyed DNF, but it was a terrible game. I enjoyed it as I got to play all the clips that had been released during the leak and I was finally playing the game I wanted to, complete and utter shit or not.

However (and commando will come at me for this) I thought TDWCM was very well paced, was fun, and (for a DLC to DNF) was a great purchase. If that add on wasn't limited by DNF, it could sell as a game by itself, it's what led me to believe GBX will create a good Duke Nukem game.

Summary: The game was shit, but I enjoyed it. If you're a bit of a fan, it's worth buying for fun in the sales. The DLC had the same problems as the original game, but felt more like a Duke game should.

There's this relatively big store I go to about once every two months and since last summer they've had about three copies of the Balls of Steel edition on the shelves. It's hilarious how nobody wants to buy them even though their price has been coming down pretty steadily; it's now at 19,99€ (about a year ago the price was 89,99€). There's already visible wear & tear on them. I only "want" (=mildly curious about) the art book but I'm not gonna pay 19,99€ for it and I don't want all the other junk that's included in the BoS edition.

Absolutley! The same for me...I knew the game wasnt very good, but enjoyed it (somewhat) one time through, despite having only two weapons (before the patch) and despite having to drive around in the 3rd person. (grrr)

The patch fixed the game and made it decent to go through. If you can pick it up for a fair price, I'd say get it.

RAGE WAS VERY BAD!

Totally agree. I think id guys have made some of the best games of all time (and with Quake, my favourite shooter) but RAGE is really disappointing. I bought it for 20€ a couple of months ago and I have just played 4 hours. It's terrible, I wanted to like it, but I can't. I hope it's just a mistake on a brilliant carreer, although I'm neither really a fan of Doom 3 ...
As for DNF... damn, I think I love it. I know it has plenty of flaws, but Steam says I've played it for 73 hours.

RAGE isn't terrible - the combat is pretty good - but the game failed to keep my interest for very long. Some people will call me stupid for this but it feels very Borderlands-ish without grasping what made Borderlands fun.

Honestly I think RAGE would've been much better without all the driving and one dimensional characters. Just let us shoot lots of stuff k

Interesting, I though pretty much the opposite - that Rage was alot like Borderlands, but better in every aspect (except it didn't have coop).
IMO Rage is one of id's best games, and one of the best shooters in recent years. That doesn't mean I think it's flawless, or even reeeally good though, since I think most recent shooters are mediocre at best. :D
I'd give Rage a 7/10 or something like that, maybe a weak 8.

Rage is definitely better than Borderlands. A huge chunk of the latter consists of meaningless sidequests and aimless wandering.

RAGE ... that's the game where you enter a small town after 2 or 3 hours and you walk around in that town fighting to die through boredom because every person is basically offering the same functions as the people in that outpost in the beginning, isn't it?

But hey, still played that longer than Borderlands where I quit after the first enemy encounter where I couldn't toggle ironsights. So I went to the web and read they are only toggleable through an ini-edit which will screw up later turrets. So I uninstalled.
