That's how you input multiple commands :D

Thanks. Now I don't need to run Flawless Widescreen everytime.

Gentlemen, can we get some screenshots in here? My DNF copy hasn't arrived and I'm curious to see the difference between the bumpmap's bias in -1 and -10/-100.

Here are some screens. I had the setting at -100 in these pictures, but I only use -1 now. Because anything more than -1 messed up the anti aliasing and causes shimmering textures on objects in the distance. There's not a huge visual upgrade between -1 and -100 anyway.

Has anyone found a command to change from 1st person in vehicles back to 3rd person? It sure would be nice to toggle back and forth.

No he's not! He's God! Heh.

As for DNF's levels and its linearity, I think that the true Duke fans that are modders won't have a problem. I'm sure that there will be a level editor, I'm sure that people will edit things so they aren't so scripted and such. It's OUR game. It's every fan of Duke's game. Can't wait to see what's next.

makes you wonder if gearbox wanted to make DNF fail so the could "Reboot" the IP I mean why else turn off the good bump maps in the full version and console commands >_>? /tinfoil hat

Tin foil hat indeed.

No, the console was shut off, because the MP part was added on after the SP was finished in 2009. So that left a year to work on MP, and as a result of a rushed time window, they could never cheat protect the c_vars. DNF did not fail, I just got back from Gamestop, picked up my second copy of Duke (this time for Xbox, so I can see for myself) and it was the last copy of Duke in the store for any platform. It's officially sold out. People are ignoring those garbage reviews, thank god. (Even if you think Duke Forever isn't a great game, there is nobody who could say it's a 3.0/10.... It's totally better than Sonic Unleashed. Oh and yeah Imagine Babyz scored a 6.... so Duke is supposed to be a worse game, than a game made for 3 year olds that is basically a tomagachi with a computer baby.... Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.)

As for the dedicated servers, they did add them... and while they are unsupported... I've been playing on a few, and they totally work. They have custom rules set too, like infinite time etc... things you can't do through "Custom Match" when you decide to host. We know there are 3 DLC packs planned, so that means there WILL be patches and support. Who knows what they can fix in the first few patches?

Regardless... Duke is not a failure... even if critically panned.

P.S.

This bump map issue, I'm sure was an accident. You see stuff like this all the time in the industry... and as you can see a simple setting fixed it, so you know.... it will be addressed in a patch, especially if Gearbox is really "looking into it."

I also don't get this complaint. Duke 3D was linear to a fault. It also included mad back tracking. I don't see how DNF is any different, the one time you have to back track in the entire game they kept it fresh, because the entire first time through you are shrunk, and the time when you back track -- you are fully grown.

I don't get these complaints. Also, the Hive was pretty much = to lunar apocalypse. People just don't wanna admit it, because you aren't in space. I don't see the problem here....

Sorry in advance for the back2back posts...

Great job Mr.D. You're doing this community, and Duke fans everywhere, a great service by investing all of this time.

Has anyone been able to enable this, and the console, and FOV, by using a config file?

Short answer. No.

The Flawless Widescreen App works by injecting into the memory after the game launches. I.E. It constantly changes the FoV and the settings back to what you set them at everytime they reset (everytime you die or change levels), hence the reason why the game runs a tiny bit rougher and has slightly longer load times while using the FWA. It'll also run worse the higher the FoV is set, although this is true for every game, because you are actually rendering more in the scene at any given time.

Hope that helps. By the way, There is no worry with using the FWA, you won't get banned or anything as the game DOES NOT use VAC or any form of "cheat protection." So it's totally safe to use when playing MP, as I have been doing so since US launch.

Woah, he looks a lot older with the bumpmapping turned up. So I guess Gearbox didn't completely screw up Duke's new look. :D

How about a comparison between no tweak, tweak with value -0.5 and with -1? For instance an image of that duke close up with the value of -0.5?

I agree! He looks more like a human being and less like a plastic Action Figure.

If the engine would have allowed me to selectively chose the lod value for each model, I would personally keep -100 for all models and -1 for the map textures.
As soon as we will have a tool to repack files into the .dat I will personally sharpen duke's bumpmaps in photoshop so that he can look as detailed at -1 as he is at -100 now.

Question, how do you move the camera around like that to get a screen of the front of duke? I want to do that so I can make some wallpapers.

Actualy I'd go so far as to say Duke's is one of the best models I've seen in a game.

Oh yeah, that's what I mean. I mean, he does look older in my opinion, but that makes him look more natural and better, like you said.

In the console type freecamera. To zoom in you can either lower the FoV , or in that particular level use the allammo command to spawn weapons, then after picking one up you can zoom in.
