The title is pretty self explanatory.

If 3D Realms were to polish up the old versions of Duke Nukem Forever from 2001 and 1998 to make them playable to a certain extent (albeit unfinished) would you buy it?

Not retail of course, but through a digital distribution service such as Steam or Direct2Drive at a cheap price such as $5 or $10.
Keep in mind this topic is not serious, it has been said many times before that 3D Realms has no intention of ever releasing these old versions of Duke Nukem Forever.

Yes, especially if I would be able to use them to create levels.

How many polls of this are there already?

No. Simply because those versions don't exist anymore and I don't tend to fall for scams.

Actually, those versions do exist. It's been said by 3D Realms staff that those versions exist in the company archives but they have no intention of ever releasing them.
The poll is from the position that 'if' 3D Realms were considering polishing up these versions and releasing them on a digital distribution service would you buy them.

if those versions were not fake and was it real thing i'd pay $20 for each.

It would be 10x more interesting than nowadays games...

The DNF FAQ says (said) differently. It is to be assumed that older versions of the game don't exist. That is the latest I remember. Unless you have an actual post to show a staff member saying otherwise, I assume you are imagining things.

The answer is still no, however. I don't want an old version of a game that is unfinished. I am certainly not going to pay for something that is unfinished (which begs the question why I paid for Half-Life 2).

I think I only vaguely remember that post. Of course, it doesn't change my answer.

Half-Life 2 is only part of the story. Episode 1 and 2 also leave the story unfinished. The game is incomplete because the story is incomplete. Sure, there is an "ending" to Half-Life 2 but it isn't as complete as, say, Half-Life 1. I like complete stories in my video games and movies.
If the story isn't complete, the game isn't complete. In a way, one could argue that the game(s) were rushed to make a buck. This argument is furthered by the fact that they still haven't finished the damn game with Episode 3. Arguably, Valve is almost as bad as 3DR.

@ MrGreen
I really really want to believe Joe on this, but I find it hard to believe this, what do you think? I'm asking you to be honest here, not what you wish (what we all wish frankly) was true.

Well considering it's known fact that 3D Realms still has alphas and betas of other games that were in development 10+ years ago I believe it would be highly likely that they still also have old alphas and betas of Duke Nukem Forever.

So true. Imho there won't be any EP3 and I think it will be left for Half Life 2, because episodes are still $30 while whole game has much more media attention and is sold at $60.

That's where the comparison is failing. DNF98 and DNF01 if released wouldn't be finished "games". While HL2 certainly was a finished game, but with unfinished story. And it is quite common for stories to have cliffhangers. But it still doesn't make a work somehow unfinished. It was probably meant to be finished that way with a cliffhanger.

I'd would gladly pay $10 for the 2001 build. Don't really care for the 1998 build though.

The 2001 version with the tentacles and Las Vegas looked great and all but my personal favourite is the shot from the '98 game of the crashed jeep in the canyon. That rocket launcher was so freaking cool too.

I'd buy both though, who the hell are you guys trying to kid?

I think including the old versions might be cool as some sort of 'collector's edition' bonus with DNF.

I 100% agree with Martin, that's would be a good part of collectors edition.

Btw. it doesn't have to be 100% finished I remember how they boasted that they've it "almost finished" so if 5% were missing - just let it opensource so modders can do those 5% for you.
Unfortunately what I'm afraid of is that they were like 40% finished or so and after those years of lies they'd die in their own shame...

Read the DNF history and if you missed it read it again.
Those versions were only complete enough to make the promo vids - NOTHING ELSE
Even former 3DR staff admitted it.
Not enough was ever created for a complete game (prob not even one complete level)
If they existed - Yes I would buy it.

"Even former 3DR staff admitted it."

I guess you are referring to a rather famous incident in another forum, problem is that Charlie Wiederhold corrected that former employee on that point and noted that that particular employee never worked on the E3 2001 version.
