Kaz Hirai Downplays 3DS lol.

Sony President Kaz Hirai downplays the 3DS's Glasses Free 3D model as "Based off internally conducted research, naked-eye 3D for portables does not have high precision, and at present there are limitations."

Probably Sony is upset for:
A. Not having thought of it first.
B. Wanting to sell Sony 3D TVs (Especially since Sony has said they want a 3D TV in every home by the end of 2010.)
C. Wanting people to wear stupid 3D Glasses.

It probably could be said to cover their asses when in 3-5 years they steal the idea and use it in the next iteration of the PSP. I just think it's funny considering most people at the show said the 3DS was a stroke of genius. IIRC Sony said similar statements about the Wii, and probably about the Rumble Feature that the N64 had before ripping off both. :)

Because Sony does look awkward. They've just recently began a serious push for 3d in home theatre environment. And they will burn. Because you would need lots of money to buy all this 3d hardware.

You would need to change your TV, Amp/Receiver, blu-ray player. Then you would need to buy a pair of 3d glasses for everyone. I just don't see how people(most of them at least) would buy all of this. Many of them just somewhat completed transition from SD to HD. And now Sony expects from people a transition from HD to 3d? It's been just 4 years since beggining of HD-era in home entertainment. Are they stupid or something? Just because people liked watching Avatar in 3d in the theatre doesn't mean they would at home. Not at those prices.

And about rumble feature. Sixaxis didn't have one. Cause Sony said it would intefere with motion sensing. Yeah, right...

Exactly, just because Kaz Hirai is rich enough for all that stuff, doesn't mean some of us aren't still playing games on a CRT 19" TV. ^o^ Nintendo doesn't jump on all this extra BS bandwagon because they know the common man or rather their kids anyway. :)

Yup, Kaz Hirai never fails to make me giggle. I'd get a 3D TV.. when my current 1080p set dies. I've only had this set for a year and a half, and to me it still looks fucking amazing. Especially Blu-rays. I'd like to see some different improvements. I'd like to see standard definition properly emulated/pulled-off somehow on HD sets. My PS3 and 360 look great on it. My PS2 looks pretty good via component. My Mega Drive and Super Famicom both look pretty bad on it (not talking about graphics). Bear in mind that the MD has an RGB mod, and both MD and SFC are connected via RGB SCART. Certainly my HD set doesn't cope that well with super-low resolutions. It's a shame, because my MD and SFC look gorgeous on the CRT set we have.

Does he honestly think every single home is going to have a 3DTV by the end of this year? There's only three months left of the year, and I've yet to know anybody to own a 3D set! Hahahaha! That's just as bad as the 'ten year' claim Sony made/make about PS3. It's already pretty old Sony, no way the PS3 has legs for another 6 years.
